For the 2026 academic session, CBSE has introduced major reforms, including bi-annual (two) board exams for Class 10 to reduce stress, starting in February and May. Key changes include increased competency-based questions, mandatory 75% attendance, strict sectional answering in science/social science, and a new 9-point grading scale.
Key Changes for CBSE 2026 Exams:
- Two-Attempt System (Class 10): Two board exams will be held annually. The first is in February (mandatory), and the second in May is optional for improvement.
- Best Score Consideration: If a student appears for both exams, the higher score will be considered for the final result.
- Subject-Specific Rules: In Science, answers must be separated by Physics, Chemistry, and Biology sections.
- Question Pattern: Focus has shifted to competency-based questions, including MCQs, case studies, and application-based questions.
- Attendance & Registration: A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory. All students must register through the Pariksha Sangam Portal using a unique APAAR ID.
- Evaluation Structure: The final evaluation for Class 10 will be weighted 60% based on the board exam and 40% on internal assessment (projects, tests).
- 9-Point Grading Scale: A new grading system where top 12.5% of students are awarded an A1 grade.
Important Notes:
- Full syllabus will be covered in both exams.
- LOC (List of Candidates) for the first exam is mandatory.
- The second exam is mainly for improving scores in subjects like Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages.
